Scope

The journal Birth Defects Research publishes original research and reviews as well as short communications, case reports, opinions and practice and policy articles in areas related to the discovery, description, etiology, and prevention of adverse reproductive and developmental outcomes. In particular the journal is devoted to the publication of original research that contributes to the understanding of prenatal development and the causes and mechanisms leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes including pregnancy loss, structural and functional birth defects, and effects on maternal and children’s health, and to the identification of biological mechanisms and interventions that reduce these risks. SJR

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.
