Scope

Visual Communication will publish four kinds of papers: (1) Research papers which advance theory, method, and empirical analysis in one or more of the following areas (5000-7000 words): The structures and histories of the semiotic resources and technologies of visual communication, and their relation to other modes of communication. The use of these resources and technologies in visual and multimodal genres, texts, communicative events, artefacts, and performances, including but not restricted to, education, media, health, science, organizations, and personal contexts. (2) Reflective papers by practitioners of visual communication which document current and emerging practices and trends in all areas of visual communication, whether from a critical perspective or with a view to exploring the expansion of the resources of visual communication and their uses (maximum 4000 words) (3) Visual essays in any of the above areas which make their argument predominantly through visual communication (maximally 12 pages). (4) Presentations of critical reviews of freely-available tools for analyzing, creating, or manipulating data/examples of visual communication (maximum 4000 words). All contributions should engage closely with examples of visual communication, and/or examples of the visual relation to other semiotic modes. All contributions should be of interest to a broad multidisciplinary readership in the humanities, social sciences and design professions, and written in a style that is accessible to this readership. Quartiles

The set of journals have been ranked according to their SJR and divided into four equal groups, four quartiles. Q1 (green) comprises the quarter of the journals with the highest values, Q2 (yellow) the second highest values, Q3 (orange) the third highest values and Q4 (red) the lowest values.

SJR

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.

Citations per document

This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal. The chart shows the evolution of the average number of times documents published in a journal in the past two, three and four years have been cited in the current year. The two years line is equivalent to journal impact factor ™ (Thomson Reuters) metric.
